Damn Bison

Joel and I need to get some MTB miles in to prepare for our 120 mike Kokopelli Trail ride next month. Antelope Island is a favorite as the trails are manageable and, depending on the day and time, you can have most of the Trails to yourself … except for the wildlife.

About 1/2 way on the loop trail, Frary Peak in the background.

We planned an 8 mile loop, and as we neared the 6 mile mark, I was feeling pretty confident that all the bison were east of us. Nope! Turned the corner, and there were 3 huge bulls about 50 yards off the trail. Possibly doable to blast by on the trail except for the fact that #1 it was right in the middle of a 2 mile climb and I would have been going about 0.6 mph and #2 (see sign below) two of them turned directly towards us and became very interested in what we were doing.

So, our lovely 8 mile ride turned into a 12 mile ride with most of the additional miles uphill. Oh well, we need the miles and we made it back unscathed.

Second time at trail junction. Note hill in the distance that we had to go back up.😐
